Dior Saddle Bag Unboxing and Review
A new handbag makes its way into my collection every year. : ) This year, while I was going through my wish list and current collection, I realized most of my bags were black/grey and square/rectangle in shape. This realization bumped the Dior Saddle Bag up to the number one spot, as I’d wanted it in brown (called “Cognac” in the current season).
I learned through online reviews and researching that Dior increased their prices not once, but twice, in the past 12 months and I’m totally hitting myself for not getting this bag a couple of years ago. Although at the time, the Chanel Boy was higher on my list and I’m glad I went with that one instead.
Surprisingly, the Saddle Bag fits more than I anticipated. I don’t carry much in my small bags - a wallet or cardholder, car keys, lip balm, and hand sanitizer (in a ziplock bag) are all I need these days. My iPhone 12 Pro is generally in my hands, but if I wanted to put it in, it would fit.
Before seeing the bag in person, I was worried I’d also have to buy the strap to make it more wearable. The shoulder strap comes with a hefty price tag and I really didn’t want to buy it if I didn’t need to. I also likely wouldn’t have bought the bag if I couldn’t wear it without a strap.
Maybe I have narrow shoulders, but I loved how the bag fit me without the extra strap. It worked well both at the crook of my elbow and on my left shoulder. I specified which shoulder because, due to the nature of the bag, wearing it on the left would be best if you want the front flap to face out. If you’re interested in the Mini Saddle, however, I might recommend the extra strap since the existing one is quite short.
If you like the Saddle Bag, but don’t want to purchase one brand new, there are a lot of great ones in the vintage market. This bag was introduced in the late 90s and was brought back by Dior in 2018; however, I do love the newer version for its magnetic closure, slightly bigger size, and the leather.
